Answers to the questions we are asked most often about grants, eligibility and how to apply.
Student Grants
Who can apply for a student grant?
To be eligible for a student grant, you must:
- Be under the age of 25
- Have lived for at least two years in Donington or one of the eligible surrounding parishes
- Have attended an eligible Donington school for a minimum of two years
- Be progressing to or attending a recognised course of further or higher education, vocational training or an apprenticeship
How much is the grant?
Current grants are:
£200 for eligible students attending college or sixth form, undertaking A Levels, BTEC, NVQ or equivalent qualifications, or completing an apprenticeship.
£450 for eligible students undertaking university or degree-level study.
How many times can I apply?
Eligible students may apply for a grant up to three times, provided they continue to meet the Foundation’s eligibility criteria and are under the age of 25.
When can I apply?
Applications are accepted between 1 September and 16 October each year.
Applications received outside these dates will not be considered.
Which villages are eligible?
Applicants must have lived for at least two years in one of the following areas:
Donington, Bicker, Quadring, Swineshead, Gosberton, Wigtoft, Horbling, Billingborough, Swaton or Helpringham.
Do I need to have attended a local school?
Yes. Applicants must have attended an eligible Donington school for a minimum of two years.
Eligible schools include Donington Cowley Endowed Primary School, Thomas Cowley High School and Cowley Academy.
What evidence do I need to provide?
You will need to provide evidence confirming your enrolment and attendance.
This could include an admissions letter or email, attendance record, reference from a course tutor or employer, or other suitable evidence.
When will I receive my grant?
If your application is successful, payment will be made by 31 January using the bank details provided in your application.
Supporting Schools and the Community
Do you support local schools?
Yes. The Foundation provides annual grants to Donington Cowley Endowed Primary School and Cowley Academy to support educational opportunities and resources for pupils.
Do you support local educational groups?
Yes. The Foundation may award small grants to educational groups and organisations within Donington that provide an educational benefit to the local community.
Where does the Foundation’s funding come from?
The Foundation receives an annual income from its investment portfolio.
This income enables the trustees to award grants to eligible students, support both local schools and provide grants to educational groups within Donington.
